The

Founding

Story

Zoala's founding story began with a heartbreaking reality: the decline of a young girl’s mental health.

Despite the girl’s parents’ love for her, they were at a loss when addressing her worsening condition.

Monthly therapy sessions provided little continuity in her treatment, leaving her feeling isolated and misunderstood.

Trapped by the stigma surrounding mental health, she reached a point of desperation and attempted to take her own life.

Thankfully, she survived.

Witnessing his goddaughter's struggle and the limitations of the existing mental health support system, Jeff Lee, the CEO of Zoala, was compelled to take action.

Jeff, driven by the belief that early intervention and ongoing support were crucial in preventing mental health deterioration, conceptualised Zoala.

The idea took shape during an Executive MBA entrepreneurship project at the National University of Singapore (NUS) Business School. Jeff and his project team recognised that cutting-edge technology could be a powerful tool for fostering connection, continuity, and timely intervention.

With this vision, the team developed an innovative mental health application. They combined their technology, psychology, and business expertise to revolutionise how mental health support was delivered.

Their goal was to leverage technology to detect early signs of mental health decline, offer personalised interventions, and create a supportive community for needy individuals.

The Zoala solution became a beacon of hope, providing a safe and inclusive space where people could seek help without fear of judgement. Through regular check-ins, virtual chat sessions, and access to a supportive community, Zoala ensured that individuals received the ongoing care they required.
